Year 7

Students entering Year 7 at RJAS will find a welcoming environment that seeks to ensure a smooth transition from Year 6 to the multi-faceted disciplines of Secondary education.

While some students find the change from Year 6 to Year 7 quite daunting, at RJAS we endeavour to reduce such concerns by utilising teachers’ skills across several subject areas and reducing movement between classes.  This enables new students to settle well into the Secondary routine and to develop closer working relationships with staff, with fewer changes in teachers.  Any issues are identified and addressed early and dealt with in an informed and sensitive manner.

By the following Year, students are then better equipped to move between more teachers and classrooms, confident in the knowledge that they are valued members of our School community.

The Years 7-8 Coordinator oversees the welfare of students and especially focuses on enabling a smooth transition from Primary to Secondary.

Stage 4 - Years 7 and 8

In Stage 4, students study the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography and PD/Health/PE, as well as the mandatory curriculum areas of Languages (Indonesian in Year 7), Music, Technology and Visual Arts.  In Technology, students gain skills in Textiles, Food, Design and Computer Technology across two years.  Class sizes are small in the ‘practical’ subjects.

Christian Living is taught as a separate program and is designed to support the Christian ethos of the School.  All students are expected to participate in Christian Living classes, normally one Period per week.

 Stage 5 - Years 9 and 10

In Years 9 and 10, two electives are studied from a range of subjects including Dance, Drama, Commerce, Food Technology, Visual Arts, Music, Design and Technology and Industrial Technology (Timber).

Students complete the School Certificate in Year 10.

Stage 6 - Years 11 and 12

The School is proud to be offering the full HSC program, with a comprehensive selection of courses.  A great deal of work has contributed to ensuring the development of quality teaching programs and resources.  Small class sizes certainly enhance the levels of assistance provided by the qualified teachers.  The senior students receive very personalised care and attention.  A huge amount of time, energy and resources are invested in the Stage 6 students, in order to prepare them well for not only the HSC, but to develop them as mature contributors to society beyond their formal education.

A Joint Senior Schools Project operates in conjunction with Rouse Hill Anglican College and enables an even wider range of subject choice.  Languages (such as Indonesian, Spanish, French and Italian) may be studied through tutors at the Open High School and supervised by staff at RJAS.  Vocational, Education and Training (VET) courses may be undertaken through the Western Sydney Institute of TAFE Colleges and there is a huge variety available.
