The Primary section of the School caters for Years Kindergarten through to Year Six and is double streamed throughout, ie. 2 classes per Year. Our latest wonderful new building, incorporating 10 classrooms, Primary Library, Technology Learning Centre and Learning Support spaces, accommodates Years 2 to 6 in high quality facilities.
A highly dedicated and professional Teaching Staff ensures that your child is valued and educated in a motivating manner. Discipline is “fair, but firm”, it is also consistent. The appointment of Christian staff ensures that students have excellent role models and our teachers approach their roles with passion and diligence, not just ‘as a job’. The School’s Respect and Care Policy aims to ensure that all students are encouraged to exercise responsible behaviour to their teachers, each other and to themselves.
Students participate in six Key Learning Areas:
1.English - The Ants in the Apple program is integral to an individual student’s success in literacy.
2.Mathematics.
3.Human Society and its Environment (HSIE), including Languages Other Than English and Christian Living NB. Years 1-4 learn a European language - German, Years 5-6 learn an Asian language - Indonesian.
4.Science and Technology.
5.Creative and Practical Arts - Visual Arts, Drama and Music.
6.Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PD/H/PE).
Teaching staff have developed an excellent program of Integrated Units of Work, incorporating HSIE, Science, English and PD/H/PE, which has resulted in relevant and meaningful work units addressing the Board of Studies teaching and learning outcomes in outstanding fashion.

At RJAS there is a collective belief that every child is unique, and that all children have God-given talents which need to be recognised and developed. As part of the “Periscope Program”, talented Primary students are able to participate in many groups and activities designed to enrich and extend their minds. Components of the Periscope Program in the Primary section include a requirement for all teachers to ensure that teaching/learning programs are founded upon Bloom’s Taxonomy and utilise of De Bono’s Six Thinking Hats in many learning situations; Future Problem Solving Teams; participation in University of New South Wales Competitions; opportunities to compete in various poetry and writing competitions and external enrichment programs such as workshops and camps; as well as small withdrawal groups in various subject areas. Every student participates in the School’s Public Speaking Competition, with finalists invited to compete at an inter-school level.
Students needing extra help are assisted through our extensive Learning Support program. The Student Services Co-ordinator leads a team of Support personnel (Learning Support Teachers and Teachers’ Aides) to provide an effective range of learning activities to consolidate knowledge and skills particularly in literacy and numeracy. Benchmarks for minimum competencies in literacy and numeracy have been established for the Primary section. Also, across all Primary Years, proportionally more time is devoted to literacy and to numeracy to ensure ample opportunities are afforded to all students to acquire the basic skills firstly and then to enrich and extend them.

Computer technology is taught in an integrated manner, with two well-equipped Learning Centres. Students are also taught the skills required for efficient computer use and research.
